USCCA Instructor Development Course
For anyone considering becoming a USCCA Firearms Instructor, wanting to increase their instructor knowledge, or wants to be state certified to teach New Mexico Concealed Carry, take a look at this post. This is a general idea of what you can expect for this training. It is done in 2 phases with eLearning or 8 hours of online learning required to be completed 2 weeks prior to the 2 day classroom and range portion. Useful information is below.

Phase I
eLearning course MUST be completed two (2) weeks prior to class start date. This offers you an opportunity to become familiar with the course material prior to required classroom instruction. This eLearning is part of what you will be using for teach-backs to the class. I highly recommend you become very familiar with this information.
Phase II

Classroom Instruction and Live Fire phase.
• Each Instructor Candidate will demonstrate a portion of several slides from many of the (5) chapters, and each peer candidate will have the opportunity to offer positive suggestions towards one another’s performances. Virtual Range exercise are included using SIRT pistols.
Included Items
USCCA will provide:
- Initially you will receive the eLearning Course from USCCA to get started.Â
- After the classroom portion, you will receive access to the Instructor Web-Portal and be sent the Instructor Tool Kit which Includes – 235 slide PowerPoint Presentation, (10) Conceal Carry and Home Defense Manuals, 14 critical Classroom Videos and classroom posters, Conceal Carry Magazines, Official Instructor Apparel and more!
We will provide:
- Classroom, the shooting Range, and the Training Counselor for the class.
- Condensed Course Instructors Manual and Pen to take notes
- Beverages and Snacks
You will bring:
- Eye’s and Ear’s Protection
- Your Firearm
- Your Holster
- (1) Box of 100 Rounds your caliber ammunition
The course classroom portion will be held at Vigilant Firearms Training, 3915 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107. The Live Fire qualification will be held at the Del Norte Gun Club, 208 Torcida road, Rio Rancho, NM 87144.
Live Fire Qualification:
The Target is an 8 inch circle on a silhouette overlay.
- Stage 1:   Distance: 4 yards     Rounds: 15 rounds
- Stage 2:   Distance: 7 yards     Rounds: 15 roundsÂ
- Stage 3:   Distance: 10 yards    Rounds: 10 roundsÂ
- Stage 4:   Distance: 15 yards   Rounds: 10 roundsÂ
Qualifying Score = 80%, hits are scored on the 8 inch ring or smaller.
Up to 20 rounds are used for practice before Qualification Shooting using 50 rounds. I recommend bringing 100 rounds minimum.

After you complete the eLearning in Phase I, let me know.
One question that keeps coming up – does NM accept USCCA for CCW instructor and license purposes? The answer is yes. It is not a blanket acceptance, so each instructor will have to submit a syllabus that basically states you are following USCCA courseware and that is acceptable to NM DPS.
