After a few years of teaching Conceal Carry in NM, I realized we are answering the same question MANY times!! That is OK, it is our job and we are happy to answer it again. For those of you looking for answers ONLINE, this may help you understand.
What do I need to get my CCW license?
To get your conceal carry in NM, you will need to complete the 15 hours of training by a state certified instructor. Before or after attending the class, you can go and get your fingerprints. I wrote a separate blog about fingerprints here. Fill out the complete 2 page application. Have your Information Release form and Health Information Form signed, witnessed, and/or notarized as required.
The New Mexico Department of Public Safety Conceal Carry Unit has a website that can answer a lot of questions, but they also have forms you can download. You can fill out the application using an online form and print it out. Click here for the application.
If you have not attended a class with us yet, this section will help you prepare —
How much does it cost?
We charge $145 for the 2 days of training. You will also need to pay $100 in additional fees for fingerprints and application fees to the state. If you decide to use our in-class fingerprint service (another local business comes in to do this) he charges a $20 fee to do fingerprints in the classroom. Check out the Fee Schedule in my blog here.
Do I need to bring my own gun?

What do I need to do to prepare for the Conceal Carry Class?
There is not really much to do before day 1 of the class. You could complete the fingerprint application online which includes paying for them, but not actually having them done, that requires you to be in person to get your fingerprints. It is good idea to read about the Fee Schedule and it is good to know where to go and when to be there. About a week out from any Conceal Carry course we teach, we will send a version of this email below to help you prepare for the course ad needed. When you receive a copy of the email below, it will have the dates listed in the email.
Here is the information about our upcoming Conceal Carry Class. It is a bit lengthy, but please read everything; this information is critical for you to have prior to the class.
This Concealed Carry Class with Vigilant Firearms Training will be conducted at 3915 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107. Class starts at 8 am and will end at 5 pm. You can expect a 1 hour lunch break and other short breaks throughout the day. Day 1 is all classroom time. You don’t need to bring anything except maybe a notebook and drinks (Snacks are fine). We do give you a USCCA Conceal Carry book as part of the class and it is yours to keep. Feel free to bring your gun if you like (unloaded), but we will not need them on Day 1.
On Day 2, we will meet at King Meadows Park at 3601 King Blvd NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87144. We meet there at 8:30 am before driving 10 miles down a dirt road to use the Del Norte Gun Club in Rio Rancho. The address of Del Norte Gun Club is 208 Torcida Road, Rio Rancho, NM for those wanting to see where we are going. We take the easiest route which is 4.5 miles west on King Boulevard on the dirt then turn right or north onto Torcida for 4.5 miles. We usually finish around 11:30 at the range. You should have ear protection, eye protection, 100 rounds of ammunition, and your firearm. I have limited ear and eye protection for you to use if needed.
*** As you may be aware, there are only two fingerprinting places open and they are by limited appointments only. (that’s not the good news… this is) I have someone coming to the classroom at 1pm on Day 2 who will do your fingerprints as well as notarize your medical release form for $20.
BEFORE Day 1:You will need to CLICK HERE to register for your fingerprints. Here you will pay $44.00 online. Please bring your receipt with you on Sunday or at least have the number they assign to you. (See additional instructions below) The additional $20 is for the convenience of having Brian come to us. It is not mandatory that you take advantage of this.
Filling out the Gemalto form:
First select the top choice: Register Online for a Background Check. For the ORI number, click the search button. Type DPS in the field, then double click on the top choice.
Do not type anything in any of the white fields as the form will lock up and not let you proceed. It will also lock up if you add a period , comma, etc. to any answer.
If you still have difficulty completing the form, we will be happy to assist you in the classroom on Day 1. Please feel free to read up on some important items before you attend. These will be covered in class but are available here also.
